Maple, the blessing and bane of the luthier, the queen of tone woods. It is no coincidence that very fine violins, guitars, mandolins etc. are made of maple. But maple is very hard, even this soft maple, and it laughs as it dulls every tool applied to it and must be coaxed into accepting the glue.
It is the hardest wood used in Folc Harps. It is for someone who is prepared to sell their musical soul to the wire strung harp because the sustain isn’t just very long, it has a mind of its own with sympathetic vibrations, and even strings ringing for no apparent reason but for the haints that dwell in the wood.
